Lt JG Simon Hunter - Ens Sean Darnell Joint Post

[On]

Finally he was aboard the USS Aldrin and Simon had finally got to see his new quarters and boy were they big, even for a senior officer, it was even bigger than his last quarters on his last assignment. As he walked around the quarters he found that he had a big bedroom and a smaller one for when he had guests, A Bathroom in the back of the quarters, However in the front held a Office for him to work out of, It even had a kitchen and living space with a sofa and a few armchairs. But it lacked his own stuff that he had amassed over the years.

His mother had sent him some of his stuff that he had put in storage for the last few years as he started to place his pictures of his Mom and Dad pride of place next to his bedside table, whilst his books filled the shelves as he loved the style of the old 20th century feel of the book in his hands, as he walked over to the terminal that sat on the desk in his office and entered his codes to check that everything was going to plan and no nasty shocks for the ship.
Sitting down in front of the terminal, Simon typed in his codes and logged on to the terminal to check the status of his team and see who was yet to arrive. Whilst going down the list he noticed a name that stood out for him and that being a Ensign Sean Darnell who was to be his assistant chief to his surprise. He thought Well that didn't take long Simon tapped his combadge and said “Ensign Darnell, Please report to my quarters ASAP,”

Sean has been putting his gear in the room he had been assigned, which was a lot bigger than he’d been expecting. But he would have a roommate, so that was not so different from what he was used to. He heard his badge chirp and heard the message from Hunter, Simon, LTJG. Just the man he was eager to meet.

Sean exited his quarters and hurried through the corridors until he stood in front of the Ops Chief’s Quarters. He tugged his uniform into place and then rang the chime. He knew that It wouldn't be right just to barge in, even if he was expected. He waited for permission to enter. Once given, he stepped inside and glanced around to see where Hunter was. He stood at attention and said, “Ensign Darnell reporting as Ordered, Sir.”

Having heard the door chime, Simon looked up from the terminal and called “Enter,” as he leaned back and the brand new chair, he hoped that the young man knew what the status of the resupply was and give him an update and hoped that everything was going according to plan.

Sean nodded to Hunter and gave him a small salute of respect. “Sir, I have been monitoring the resupply and refit of the Aldrin,” He continued speaking “as I was part of the team that was bringing in new, ahh, supplies” He finished his report. “Each Department has reported all necessary supplies and equipment has been accounted for and properly stowed.” Sean took a moment before he concluded. “In addition, all ships systems have undergone complete diagnostics and have been deemed safe.”

“Thank you Ensign,” replied Simon looking back at the eager young Ensign, he continued ”And I understand that you have been made aware that you are to be my assistant chief,” looking back at him hoping that the responsibility was not too much for the young man at his age.

Sean nodded slightly, “Aye, Sir. And I will hand in my report to you after each shift at ops.” He paused a moment before he continued, “However; I have also been assigned to the fighters.” He watched the Chief’s face to get a feeling for how this news was being taken, “If and when the time comes when I am needed in that role,” He continued, “ obviously, I can’t be at the ops station all the time.”

“I was not aware of this Ensign,” replied Simon looking back at the young man, “It was my understanding that as my Assistant Chief when I am on away missions,” he continued keeping his gaze upon him,” that you would be on the bridge,” as he knew that he would have to speak with the captain about this. He finished, “And you are not in any trouble with me Ensign,” giving him the assurance of not worrying him.

Sean nodded, “Thank you, sir. And you are correct,” He said, “When you are on an away mission, I will be at ops,” He smiled slightly as he continued, “But if the fighters need to fly,” Sean stood up straighter, his pride evident, “I am one of only a few on this vessel that knows them inside and out.”

“So are you telling me Ensign that you and a handful of Engineers know how to repair them?” he asked once more leaning back in his chair, this was a worrying thought to him and he knew he needed more teams to keep those birds flying and in good condition.

Sean frowned slightly, “Well, I wouldn’t put it quite like that, Sir.” He shifted his feet, “I mean my Sister is the fixer more than I am,” He looked at his chief and continued, “I could do repairs if needed, but my knowledge is more,” He paused trying to find the best phrase, “systemic?”

Sean had to hide a small smile at the thought of what Sineade would do when she saw him on board. “What I mean, Sir,” He continued, “Is that I have been around shipyards most of my life.” He smiled, “If it came to it, I could probably build one from scratch.”

“Then Ensign do you know where she is?” he asked as he knew that would help him more, he glanced back at him, he then asked, “Anything else to report Ensign?”.

Sean chuckled, “If I know my sister, Sir,” He pointed a thumb over his shoulder, “She’s most likely down in engineering admiring her new toys.” Sean smiled, “And no, Sir. I don’t believe There is anything else to report at this time.”

“Very well Ensign, You are dismissed,” He stated looking back at him, as he finished “And Ensign, Tell your Sister that I’d like to meet with her and discuss inter-departmental Cooperation,”

Sean nodded, “Aye, Sir. I’ll do that.” He smiled again, “Thank You.” Sean turned around to exit the room but paused at the doorway, “By the way, if you hear a high pitched scream and a lot of Gaelic swearing,” He said with a gleam in his eye, “That’ll be her yelling at me.”

“Does she not know that you're here Ensign?” he chuckled to himself at the sight when her brother entered and into her domain, he finished “Or will I have to call Security?” he asked the question giving him a slight smile

Sean shook his head, “Not yet, Sir. My appointment here was very recent and quite a surprise for me.” He smiled, “So I am sure She’ll have a LOT to say about it.” As he headed out the door he quipped, “Security, No. Medical on the other hand? Sineade can pack a mean right hook when she wants.” He chuckled to himself, “I will talk to her about that cooperation, as soon as she calms down.”

With that he exited the room and headed out to search out his sister.
