Mission: Refit and Restock
Morgan walked down the hallway of the ship from his quarters and towards the ship's Counselor’s office. He hated this time of the year, but understood the necessity of the evaluation, due to the nature of their jobs in the fleet. Most people did not deal with the things that officers of the fleet dealt with, and sometimes it was good to have someone check on a mental state, especially after the ordeals of time travel and trying to get back into the routine of ‘normal’ life. He paused outside the office and took a breath before he pressed the chime.
"Enter" The counselor called out as she stepped from behind her desk. The door swished open with Morgan on the other side.
"Good morning Lieutenant, can I offer you something to drink?"
Morgan walked into the room and looked around, taking in everything with a glance to include what might be used as weapons and such. This was done relatively quickly with only a minor hesitation in his step before he focused his eyes on Starr. “No thank you Ma’am, I am not parched as of yet.” He said with a wry smile knowing that at some point he might need to have a drink if this went poorly.
Starr took her tea and took a seat in the lounge area of her office. "Please, have a seat. I'll make this as easy as it can possibly be done."
Morgan took his seat, not bothering to lounge on the chair as others might have, but sitting facing her directly and studying her with his jade eyes. “Any time you are ready doc..” he said with a slight touch of sarcasm.
Teaya took him as he watched her for a moment. This one's wound tight. She thought to herself. "How are you doing Lieutenant?"
“Me? Oh I am doing okay I guess. I am still struggling with adjusting from Gamma to Alpha shift and its causing issues with my sleep schedules but that usually just takes time to adjust itself to a new normal. I am staying busy as I can at this time, making sure that what teams we have not on rest and relaxation are helping engineering get the ship put back in order. Other than that….I seem to find myself running a lot. But that is normal for me when I can't sleep.”
"Yes, we do have a lot going on. However you know how important your sleep is. If you find you aren't getting enough, you may have to change your routine a little." She sipped her tea.
" I completely understand the shift change, it can be tough. How are you dealing with all the other changes that have occured?"
“Running..” he said with a laugh. “And just doing what I can to stay busy and help, and yes. I know the importance of a good night's rest, and maybe once we get the ship back in order I will take a night off and go hit the deck or something and go flying.”
"I know males especially are not accustomed to talking about their feelings or emotions as they think it's unmasculine or some such silliness, however we need to know the crew is at top performance." Taking a breath and another drink of her tea, she set her mug down and folded her hands in her lap. Yep, men… mentally shaking her head.
“I know, and I also know that there is nothing wrong with crying, or showing emotion. I am also familiar with the Kobayashi Maru test and facing fear and death. Nothing I have seen, other than not knowing for a time if I was going to get back to our present to see my family again was about the most harrowing event I have really dealt with currently. Notwithstanding being new to this shift, I have utmost faith in those that I serve with, offered what help I could in regards to time travel, and the ensuing fight to get back to our time. “ Morgan said with a shrug of his shoulders. “I just know that all I can do is have faith that I, and the crew can continue or perform honorably and do their best. If our best is not enough, then I can accept defeat, and know that we should not make it back from a mission that we did the best we could. “ Morgan said calmly.
Teaya nodded. As wound tight as he was he was fairly well adjusted. She did note he relaxed a bit the more he talked so for her even that was a plus with him.
"Is there anything else you need or want to discuss Mr.Drysdale?"
“Not that I can really think of at this juncture ma’am. I understand the need for your position on the ship, and while I am not a full fledged ships counselor, I have gone through crisis training and the like. So I don’t envy some of your conversations. If you ever get frustrated, or feel the need to vent, I'd gladly hit the mats with you, or lend an ear.”
Teaya gave him a soft smile. "Yes, I saw that in your files and thank you. Someday I may take you up on that. Thank you again. Since there is nothing else, you're dismissed.”
Morgan nodded and rocked easily to his feet, tossed a quick salute and turned to walk out the door. “Have a great rest of the day Ma’am.” and then departed heading towards the security wing to check on the status of the ship and crew.
Lt. Morgan Drysdale is more than fit for duty. He is a bit wound tight, but his heart is in the right place and I can see no reason why he shouldn't be cleared for continued duty.
