I woke up and got the call to board the Aldrin by 1200 hours the next morning, finally. The preparations were small since I've been prepared to go a lot since I graduated. It's been over five weeks. I had my bag ready and was basically living out of that until I was able to head to the transport station and get aboard the Aldrin. I couldn't get there faster.
When I arrived, I took my first breath of the inside of the ship's air. The transporter chief gave me the weirdest look, but I didn't care. The content officer, some junior grade Lieutenant in a red shirt, who would be the equivalent to a modern day quartermaster, showed me and the rest of the new junior officers and transfers to our quarters. As with many places, I am sharing my quarters with another junior officer. An Ensign Mario Ortega. Nice fellow. Once I got settled in, I was to report to my duty shift since I was to be a junior officer on the gamma shift. At the time, I thought, if I studied the roster correctly, I'm either to report to Lieutenant Savein or Lieutenant Kev. Either way I'll find out when I get there.
Then I got to main engineering and was given a console in the rear of the room as my duty station. After a quick indoctrination from Lieutenant Kev, I got started with work. Chief Darnell apparently has a window in her office a little above us, that has a great view of the majority of main engineering, and definitely within proximity of my station. Great place for her to keep an eye on her new junior officer. She greeted me and asked me a question or two, but before the conversation could gather any further momentum, she was called away and told me to carry on.
Right now, I'm going through some systems checks as we're currently on our way toward our first mission after I came aboard of course. I'm not a senior officer so I'm not completely aware of what's going on, but I know protocol dictates we will be made aware of what we need to when we have to. All I know is that I'm just glad I'm finally out there and doing something here. End Log
