As I record this, I'm lying in bed in my quarters at the cadet barracks. I just came back from the infirmary after being treated by Dr. Paul Mathik, an MD I've been familiar with and have seen around the campus from time to time throughout the past four years, but never had to be treated by him until today.
I've been doing quite an impressive job keeping busy as possible throughout the past several days while still waiting for my assignment to call me to come up and board. I've been taking all kinds of extension courses in various fields of study from medicine to intermediate sciences to advanced engineering. I was on a five mile jog throughout the campus when I ran into a classmate who decided to join me. On our run we ran into another classmate who somehow convinced us both to play parises squares with him. I figured why not. So we went to the training annex and played a few rounds.
Big mistake.... I made one bad move and ended up fracturing five of my ribs and almost puncturing my spleen. It was very painful. The classmate I was with who joined the game was Vulcan so I knew he had more than enough strength to carry me all the way from the training annex to the infirmary if needed, but he was able to assist me to the infirmary with minimal aid.
I was given a hypospray by this lovely Bizalian Nurse and fortunately Dr. Mathik didn't have to do surgery. He just ran a medical tricorder over me, then used a bone regenerator, scanned me again, and then let me go. He gave me some interesting advice about the game tough.
Funny thing about it all is, now that I'm here and resting while the last leg of my healing happens, I'm still thinking of more activities to do to stay busy and possibly become more well rounded before I finally board the Aldrin. Heh, maybe I'll get the equivalent of a doctor or a grade four tactical strategist by then.
