"THE MEMORIAL"
Lt. Flowerpetal Sheme arrived with Lt. Commander Sineade Darnell at the Golden Gate Memorial Park. "Just let me know if you get tired okay?" she said to her companion.
Sineade smiled to FLower, "Oh, you will definitely know if I am too tired. Let's go see this memorial. Now that I know about Soan it will be, well, more special for me."
"Yeah he kicked your Tinker butt! " Flower purred softly and walked slow as to not rush Tinker.
"That he did," Sineade chuckled at the memory. "You know, I never really spent much time here. I mean at the park. I was always more interested in seeing all the new tech or the really old tech at the museums in the area."
"I come here whenever I can. I also know why Soan doesn't have a family anymore, so I always tell him what's going on in my career. " Flower meowed as she walked to the monument.
Sineade gave her friend a nod, "I can understand that. But don't you think as a friend, it's not your career he'd been interested in."
"Oh I also tell him about my friends and family, " She added as they turned a corner that led to the special place.
"It must be nice to have someone to tell everything," Sineade said, "I mean not like your fiancé or a sibling. If I told either Sean or Tholan stuff, it's like telling them something they already know, since they are right there with me. You know what I mean?"
"You can always talk with me. But I understand. " Flower placed her paws around Sineade.
"Oh, I know," Sineade said and gave Flower a friendly side push, "But I would probably bore you to tears." Sineade gave her friend a hug.
"You wish! After what we been through, you are like another sister to me! " Flower hugged back as they turned the last corner and came over to the monument. "Here he is. Our buddy Soan."
Sineade stopped and looked at the monument, admiring the work. "Somehow I expected something a little more... Blue." She chuckled as she looked at the Bronze statute.
Flower sat down by her friend, "when we had his service here...I almost couldn't control myself from yowling sadly "
Sineade was quiet for a while as she sat down next to Flower, "You had a special friendship. I am almost jealous of you and Soan for that." She looked over at Flower, "I know that may sound silly, but my academy days were rather ... well, I just didn't have any really close friends. They were more just acquaintances."
"Want to tell us about it?" Flower asked as she looked over to Tinker.
Sineade chuckled, "well, you know us engineer types, all work and very little play sort of made it hard to socialize much. So I spent most nights studying with other engineering students, together but not at the same time."
"I had some other friends in the academy, but I believe that I was closest with Soan because we were always partnered up when we did some Security rounds around the Academy. One of the times we were on call, I had an interesting time with the catnip I learned then that I am allergic to to catnip." Flower purred and felt her nose brighten a little from embarrassment.
Sineade lifted her eyebrows, "I would love to hear that story sometime. Funny, that some areas of study tend to isolate the student while others like security, tends to pull people together."
"Well it was a couple days after I got my allergy shot for my pumpkin allergy, and one of our other security cadets, Kate, who is like a shape shifter, and she was in her cat form and got into the catnip she jumped into my paws and I... succumbed to the effects of catnip, and rubbed against Soan`s boot. After that I...felt weird afterwards and almost didn’t make it to medical if it wasn’t for Soan carrying me the last few feet." Flower explained.
Sineade shook her head, "You are lucky he was there for you then. " She got quiet as she looked up at the statue, "He really would have made a very good officer, at least I think he would. Even the holodeck version, I mean that was very impressive, and helpful during a very stressful time."
"He definitely would have been. I appreciate each time he comes to see me. I hope that you can find a close friend like I did in Soan. After I spoke at his service, I felt this sensation of a hug as I turned away from the monument." Flower leaned her head on Tinkers shoulder.
Sineade smiled at that, after all she had seen a ghost or two herself recently. And she firmly believed that spirits of the departed loved ones can interact with the living. "I'll bet he was telling you he still cared for you and that it would be alright." She lifted her hand to pat the top of Flower's head on her shoulder.
"I think he was too. So I can't bring myself to let him go. But why would I want to let him go? He's still teaching me through his spirit. And now he has shown himself to you."
Sineade smiled at that, "and in quite a forceful manner, too." Sineade took a deep breath, "Makes me sad I was at the other campus. I would really have liked to meet him."
Flower purred, "Yeah I bet he would have also helped you as he helped me." she stood up and offered her paw. *
Sineade took the offered paw and stood, "Well, As Flower would say, See ya around Blue-boy!" Sineade smiled and gave a little farewell salute towards the statute. "Let's get back, I have an appointment I need to keep."
"Until the next time Soan, " Flower used her tail to salute as they turned away to head back to headquarters.
As the two turned, from the corner of their eyes, they saw a figure appear, in front of the memorial. Turning back, they saw Soan standing there. He was wearing a Starfleet uniform, with an ensign's pip, on his collar. He looked to each of them and offered a warm smile, then disappeared. The two Aldrin officers wondered if that was an automatic activation of a holographic projector, then wondered if there was even such a projector here.
