PL - Training Day (First Assignment Part 6)
By Ensign Kato Reon

(FYI, this is somewhat of a tie-in to what leads to right before our latest sim -Kato)

Reon got up from bed. It was 0800 hours. He was starting to like getting up a little later than before he graduated. He often had to get up at 0400. He didn't mind that either actually, but he felt better rested these days being able to get up that much later.     He walked over to replicator and tapped it, "Kutlef Scone, Moba tea, and a cup of Dava Fruits, medium sized." when the tray of food materialized, he took it over to the dining table and ate breakfast. He picked up the PADD to the right of the tray that was lying on the table before he put the tray down, tapped a few functions on it, and started reading. After taking a bite of his scone, he noticed something on the PADD and started reading further.
"Train for your health!" was the headline.
He looked up slowly, then pondered for a moment.
An hour later, he was in training clothes. Sweatpants, nicely fitted running shoes, a hooded sweater, and some comfortable but fitted training gloves. After some pertinent stretching, he walked out of the cadet barracks building and started running, heading toward the main campus which had a lot of paths where he could have a nice path to jog.
When he turned a corner, he almost bumped into Tovak, who was a young Vulcan who was a member of the class after his. He was dressed in similar style clothing and also jogging. They did not become disoriented with the almost accident however. They just kept running and started running side by side.
      "Excuse me." Reon said.
"Mister Kato." replied the Vulcan man, not losing much breath at all, likely due to his physiology.
They started coming toward the physical training grounds which had paths to run and an actual track. Reon started noticing the Vulcan getting further ahead so by instinct, he started matching his running speed. What he didn't realize was that suddenly, Tovak started running faster again. When he saw that, he started running faster. Then Tovak started running faster again. By that time, they had entered the track and started running it's path. He had to admit though, that the Vulcan was supremely outclassing him by that point. He was starting to lose his breath badly and run out of energy and the Vulcan kept going so by the time Tovak was at least twenty meters ahead of him, he stopped, desperately trying to catch his breath.
Damn Vulcans and your crazy physiology.....
      "Oh hey!" shouted someone.
Reon, gasping, bent over, looked up and saw it was someone he didn't know, a Trill female with blonde hair, stopping Tovak. Fortunately they weren't too far for him to hear them, so he tried his best to grab as much of his breath as possible, then he was able to hear her tell Tovak that they needed two more for a game of parises squares and she would like to know if he and Tovak would like to join.
"Yes!" Reon shouted, still gasping but starting to finally catch his breath, "Well go!" he started lurching toward them.
"Mister Kato," Tovak began, "Are you certain you can participate in a game of parises squares in your current state?"
"Huh?" he gasped, "Huh?" he gasped again, "Oh yeah," he waived dismissively, "Just give me some Bolian tonic water to quench, and about fifteen minutes to take a seat and gather my bearings again, and I'll join you all in the training annex."
"Oh that's great!" said the Trill, "I'm Amel. Amel Migren. You probably don't know me because I'm in the class before you but I know you. You were helping in one of Commander Geleh's engineering classes this past year, right?"
Reon nodded, now taking a deep breath and finally being able to stand, putting his hands on his hips, "Right. I'm Reon. Kato Reon."
She smiled at Reon, almost sheepishly, "Hi," she sighed, still grinning and not taking her eyes off of him, extending her hand to shake his, "Nice to formally meet you..."
He returned the smile, then took her hand and lightly gripped it.
What they didn't realize was that they weren't letting each other's hands go. They just kept smiling at each other looking into each others' eyes and continued to lightly shake each others' hands.
"Excuse me..." Tovak interjected, "I really do not wish to participate in a game of parises squares at this time. It is really not something in which I seek to partake often."
"Hmm?" Reon said, still shaking her hand, then he snapped out of it, "Oh," then he let her hand go, "What's the matter, Tovak? Are you afraid of losing?"
He raised an eyebrow to his Bajoran counterpart, "Fear is a non-Vulcan emotion. I was merely showing concern for your health, Mister Kato. You seem like you have exerted yourself to the point where you may not be able to play in a sport as demanding physically like parises squares. It would be illogical to partake in such an activity when you are not at minimum, your best rested and efficient."
"I'm fine, Mister Tovak," Reon assured him, now almost completely having gained his breath back, "If you're scared, you can just tell us. You don't need to hide behind someone else to mask your true feelings on the sport."
The Vulcan paused for a moment, raising his eyebrow at him again, "..... very well. I will be there," he turned to the young Trill woman, "When do you wish to begin the game?"
"Meet me there in fifteen minutes. I'll be there with another player."
"I will be there." Tovak said.
"We, will be there." Reon added, to which the Vulcan just looked at him with puzzlement, then proceeded away. He then looked to the Trill again who was trying not to giggle, then he winked to her and nodded. Then he did the same and headed back out towards the main campus.
I hope he wasn't speaking out of premonition... Damn I need some water.
