PL - Another Extension Course (First Assignment Part 5)
By Ensign Kato Reon

Reon woke up in his quarters at the cadet barracks. He found it rather quiet since his bunkmate had already left for his assignment, so he was able to be in peace, even though his bunkmate was actually very quiet. He stood up and stretched, then looked out the window to the quad where he could see very little activity, as there were very few graduates left on the planet still waiting to be able to go on their respective assignments. He went to the replicator on the other side of the room which was only about ten feet away and tapped the panel next to it to activate it. He tapped a few more things on it and suddenly a mug materialized on its platform.
He took the mug, blew into the top of it and took a sip of it. Enjoying the taste of his beverage, he exhaled, then stood there for a moment, thinking, then walked to the computer console next to his bunk under the window and sat at it, then started reading documents off of it including news and other things. He opened a database and looked at some directory, carefully going through what was in it one by one, then narrowed his eyes at one entry, bolding it, then nodded and turned it off. He spent more time looking at other things while finishing his beverage before finally getting ready to go out.
He entered the training annex and looked around. It was still empty. The gold-shirted ensign behind the desk at the entrance looked at him, then he walked past and towards an open room. Reon tapped a few functions on the panel next to the door, then the doors opened. He walked inside and it was a sickbay of a starship. He wasn't sure of which class it was, but it was definitely a Starfleet sickbay. When the holodeck doors closed, a male human in a blue shirted Starfleet uniform materialized in the middle of the room. He was bald on the top of his head with a 2/3rds full crown of dark brown hair around his head, and looked about his mid to late forties in Earth years of age.
"So you're the new trainee?" said the hologram in a somewhat careless tone.
"Uh, yes. Yes, I am." Reon replied.
"Well you're about to get some basic first aid training right now. I hope you're ready."
      "I am."
"Good. The next patient who comes in, you may have to be the one to treat that individual. I hope you're ready?"
"Er.... yep," he told the hologram, "I am."
"Good," There was a pause between the two. The doctor furrowed his eyebrows at Reon, "What?"
"Sorry to sound like I'm questioning you, Doctor, but..." he looked left to right around the whole room, "What do I do until then?"
The doctor rolled his eyes and sighed, "You may want to get started by checking on the medical equipment. Making sure that inventory is stocked and properly cataloged," he saw Reon look around like he was clueless, then realized he was probably trying to see where it is. He sighed and slumped again, "It's over there." he said with a gesture towards the back of the room.
"Ah, thank you." Reon said gently with a slight smile, knowing that the personality of this medical hologram was interesting to say the least. He went to the back and opened a compartment which had a lot of vials for hyposprays and triage equipment.
Suddenly, the doors opened. He looked back and saw a crewman walk in, cringing and holding his arm. He was a human male, thirties, tanned complexion and looked like he was in some sort of athletic garb. He didn't waste any time getting to the center of the room.
Reon turned around to address the young man, "Hello."
"Ay...." the crewman grunted, "You the nurse?"
He looked from left to right, then nodded, "Yes. That'd be me!"
"Good, I need some help here."
Reon looked over the shoulder of the man and saw the holographic doctor gesture to egg him on to treat the patient. He looked back to the patient once he realized what the doctor was doing, then smiled again, "Please, have a seat here." and he gestured to the closest biobed to them. He still felt clueless as to what to do, but he knew enough with his instincts he should grab a medical tricorder and check him out. He took one from the back of the room where he just was and went back to the patient, "So... what happened?"
"This." the patient said, extending his forearm out and with a twist of it, the posterior end was lined with what looked like a long laceration that spanned almost 2/3rds of the entire forearm and blood leaking from the vast size of it.
"Whoa," Reon said in reaction. He cleared his throat, then held up the medical tricorder to it and tapped a few functions, "Okay, so you have... A level two laceration of the posterior wrist. No torn muscles or arteries. I think we'll have you healed and back to good health in no time."
"Eh, thanks, Nurse..." said the patient.
Reon paused again. Then he went back to the area where the supplies were and took out a dermal regenerator and turned it on. He was about to run it over the area, but he hesitated. In his peripheral view, he could see the doctor looking at him with a beady-eyed stare, then saw the side image of him walking over in a huff.
      "What's wrong?" said the hologram
"What do I do?" Reon asked.
The doctor rolled his eyes, "You can start by running the dermal regnerator over the site," he took the injured arm of the patient and held it up so that Reon could see closely without fail, almost not considering that it could hurt the patient even more by the expediency of how he did it, "Start here."
"Ah," Reon replied, "... thank you..." he took the patient's arm in one hand, the regenerator in the other, and started running the beam that came from it over the area, starting on one end. As he did it, he made sure he was doing it as slowly and as carefully as he could becuase he knew, any misstep to the holographic doctor's estimation in the slightest would be chastised heavily by him with a vengeance, ".... what is the difficulty on this damy program?" he said under his breath.
"What?" the doctor said, almost sneering at him, somewhat indicating that he heard him.
"Huh? Oh nothing." he answered, then refocused the attention on his work.
