Mission:
Refit and Restock
Location: Counselors Office
Dean had already tried to lie his way out of having to do this to Mardel, obviously that did not work. So here he was standing outside of Starr’s office. Still hated these things. Pressing the chime and once he heard come in, stepped through the doors.
"Commander" she said with a smile "please come in and have a seat." She made her way from behind her desk towards the replicator. "Can I offer you anything to drink?"
“Good morning, Lieutenant,” giving her a little smile and moved over to sit. “No thank you.”
"How are you this morning?" She sat down in the chushy seat across from him and set her mug on the table. Tapping a couple of commands on the PADD she sat back in her seat, crossed her legs at the ankles and folded her hands together in her lap.
“I’m fine. Its been a bit of a few weeks but here we are after all. Before you ask, I’m not distraught over losses we’ve had. It happens and everyone knows the risks when they sign up for this job.”
“I wouldn't exactly think you to be distraught Dean, however I would be surprised if you didn't feel the loss at a professional level. Even though we all know what we are signing up for, we all experience some form of loss at different levels because of whatever relationship we had with the individual(s) we have lost." She gave him a look of slight frankness as he had to know what she said to be true.
Dean gave a bit of a nod, “And you would be correct. There is the sense of loss, both professionally and personally. Even Vulcans feel that, regardless of not showing it.” Giving a light smile a little. “So, we done here?”
"Honestly, no. You know evaluations are not that cut and dry. I know you have things to do, but we all do and you know this is part of your duties. There is no need in making this any more difficult for either of us when you know what is expected."
She bent forward and retrieved her tea from the table.
"I know with you I can be more frank with you than I can with the others Dean because of our personal and working relationship, so let's talk about the last mission and your thoughts on being caught in the past."
“I’m not exactly sure what you’re phishing for to be honest.” Dean gave a little shrug. “It is what it is. Its not like we had time to go places, see how it really was then. See our grand parents, great-grand parents. Blend in, mope around a little bit, get the whole experience. We had a future to save.”
"So there were no concerns if we had not made it back to our time?" Teaya knew vulcans well enough he wouldn't gush over his feelings for those he was close to; however evaluation wise she needed a little more from him than what he was giving. He was more than aware how this worked. Was he just being contrary or was he doing his best to just exasperated her to the point of dismissing him from his evaluation. No one like to see the counselor for whatever reason, but if they knew the benefits from it and understood the power she actually had most would not be so difficult when mandatory evaluations came up.
He actually had absolutely zero issues with Counselors, unlike other people do. None what so ever. “To be honest, not completely. Of course I’d rather be back here, but if we did get stuck there. We could all make our own lives for ourselves. Make up fake backgrounds, made families. Even if some wanted to ‘rejoin’ Starfleet we could. Its simply just a different time and we can adapt.”
She nodded in agreement. Most would adapt especially the Starfleet crew. There might be a few who could not and of course some of the civilians on board but for the most part he was correct and she couldn't fault him for that. This was more of a healthier response she was looking for from him. With an inward smile and sigh of relief she felt better about their "session". She definitely liked him more outside of her office than in. He was far more relaxed, for what relaxed is for him.
Teaya gave him a soft smile. "Alright, I won't torture either of us any longer " she said with a small laugh. "We can call this complete and I will submit my recommendation in a couple of days. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
“I appreciate that, I mean everything I said was the truth.” Dean gave a smile in return, standing up and fixing his tunic. “Yes there is one thing. Join me for dinner tomorrow on the Promenade.”
Surprise by his request to dinner she sat quiet for a brief moment. "I would like that. See you tomorrow evening unless something comes up. I'm going to be. A bit swamped here getting these yearlys done so won't be out of the office much." She stood and walked out to the hall with him.
She bid him farewell then turned back to her office to make a few notes and to see who would be coming next.
Dean paused at the door and looked over his shoulder to her, then out into hall. Not expecting her to have followed. “I don’t doubt it, we all have some things to work through. If you, would like we don’t have to go to the Promenade. I’ll leave that up to you.” Giving a thought a moment, “Oh..you might want to be in a very good mood when you talk to Kara. She’s a sweet woman. Her heart is in the right place, and probably to much so.” Taking Starr’s hand and giving it a squeeze a moment then turning to head off.
Counselor Starr made a few notes then posted her recommendations to the Commanders file.
Commander Dean House is fit for another tour in Starfleet as Commander of the Aldrin or any other post that Starfleet command sees fit to post him. His actions and reactions to all situations were typical of a man in his position. After our conversation I find him sound and we'll balanced mentally and emotionally.
