Mission:
Refit and Restock
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: An hour before leaving DS9
Mardel sat in her ready room after getting the new orders to return to Sol Sector. This was going to be big and needed a lot of coordinating. She sighed and called in her support. “Commander House, report to my ready room.”
House obviously wasn’t busy, considering he didn’t have anyone he had to go home to. Which was fine. He could do whatever he wanted. So, he set down his drink. Tapping his comm badge, “One my way Captain.” Standing up and heading out of Starlight. Into the lift, up onto the Bridge. Across it to the Ready Room. Not bothering to hit the chime. Considering he was summoned. “Yes, Ma’am?”
Looking up, Mardel offered a tight smile to Dean. “Please, sit down. I have our next orders.” She said with a hint of long suffering in her voice.
“And why do I feel I’m not going to like this?” Dean moved to sit down and cross a leg over his knee.
“Well, it isn’t all bad, Dean.” She started slowly. “We have been ordered to the Mars shipyards for a complete overhaul and refit, including barion sweeps and replacing the warp core with the updated version to power the changes they will make to Aldrin. It will take a month to do it all, and so we and the crew are invited to spend the month on Earth for shore leave, as well as debriefings and evaluations to decide which of our crew is mentally fit to return to the Aldrin for whatever our next mission will be.” She then rubbed her neck and looked at Dean. “We need to coordinate all of this.”
“Okay. Well that was kind of figured, Mardel. So….I will just leave before I have to talk to Starr.” Dean gave a smirk a bit, then a sigh. “Yes, everyone needs to, considering what has gone on. Particularly, Lieutenant Danvers. We know what she is capable of and that’s got to be checked. As well as, I think after the Barion sweep, I don’t figure the refits will be a problem.”
“The leave is ordered by Starfleet Command, anyone having a problem with leaving the ship for the entire month will need to take it up with Starfleet Command.” Mardel said, sounding a bit tired.”I know that I could use the time off. I need to unwind and speak with the counselor as well. And yes, Dean, you do need to speak with Teayana, or one of Starfleet Command’s hand picked counselors. You and I are to be evaluated as well.”
“They can’t exactly have a problem with leaving the ship considering that the Barion sweep will kill them. That is a rather stupid idea to stay.” Shifting a little bit in the chair. “I already had it done actually.”
She sighed. “Dean, I’m not the one asking for it. Starfleet Command is. If they don’t have a complete evaluation report from either one of their counselors or Teayana, then you will be reassigned to Earth until such time as you are cleared. I need you with me, Dean. We make a good team and working together, we have made the Aldrin the great ship and crew it is. So please, don’t evade this.”
There was just this look….and it continued for a full five minutes. “Fine. I know why they want it but the majority of us don’t need it. I also appreciate your kind words about us. This ship.” Tilting his head a little, “So when are you going to tell everyone? You can’t hold it off forever, you’re going to start to show.”
“I’m just waiting until the 4th month, Dean. I want to know I’m not going to lose this one, like I did the first one. That still haunts myself and Daniel.” She patted her belly. “I know that there are many, like yourself, who believe they know what is going on with me and that’s fine. But I’m not going to announce it for another two weeks, when I’m past the four month marker.” She sighed and then took a deep breath. “But that can be dealt with later. We need to make sure the crew is organized for departure when we arrive at Mars and then get shuttled down to Earth.”
“Actually, Mardel. I don’t think anyone but myself and Daniel have any idea what is going on with you to be honest. Most of them don’t even understand Orions to start with.” Dean took a breath. “I’ll get everything in order, Captain.”
Giving Dean a smile, she nodded. “Thank you, Dean. We should have everyone back on board from DS9 within the hour so we can get underway to the sol sector. And please have all the department heads get lists ready of supplies that need to be restocked and replaced and any upgrades they might want to see in their departments.”
“I will work on it, Mardel, and I won’t tell anyone about your…’condition.’ Though you do need to start taking better care of yourself and prepping for your maternity leave.”
She looked at her hands a moment and then back to Dean. “I know.” she replied simply. “We will get underway as soon as everyone is back on board. I will let you have the con for now.” She ended, letting him start them on their journey to Earth.
