Ghost Hunting Season

Sineade had scheduled the appointment with medical as directed. She was a little upset that they insisted she be seen by someone other than Tholan. Even if they did suggest he be there as well. While Tholan had been dealing with other things that morning she and Flower had made a quick trip to Golden State Park, Although she had had to cut it short in order to get back for her appointment. She’d given Tholan the time to meet and she approached the medical building looking for him and hoping he wouldn’t be tied up longer than expected. Whatever it was that they expected, she wanted Tholan there with her. To say she was a bit scared of what they might find after all this was a bit of an understatement.
She reached the entrance but did not see her fiancé waiting. She began to pace back and forth wondering to herself just what they thought was wrong with her. Did the Fury do something that shipboard medical wasn’t able to find? “No, I can’t.. I won’t think like that,” She finally said, stopping her idle ambling, “It has to be something else.”
Tholan was coming out of the turbolift seeing her pacing back and forth. “Never a good sign," he thought. He rushed over to her. “Hey beautiful everything ok?” he asked her, taking one of her hands.
“I hope so,” Sineade said and moved closer to Tholan. “I am just worried. As far as I know they didn’t make anyone else report to medical. And to tell me to make sure you were there, that has me even more worried that something is wrong.”
It was time for her appointment, so she took Tholan’s hand and led them to the medical reception area. The receptionist looked up and smiled, “Lt. Sineade Darnell,” She asked.
“Yes, I’m Darnell,” She replied. The receptionist nodded and called back to the nurse, “Lt Darnell has arrived.” “Send her back,” came the reply over the coms, “And did she bring anyone with her, was told to expect someone to accompany her. “Yes, she has someone with her,” The receptionist replied, “I’ll send them both back.” With that she turned her attention back to Sineade, “Lt. Darnell, if you and your partner will just go through those doors to the left, a nurse will bring you in and take your vitals for the doctor.”
Sineade nodded and, holding tight to Tholan’s hand she walked through the indicated doors.
She was soon directed to a biobed and the basic information; weight, height, pulse and blood pressure; had been taken by the nurse who then left her and Tholan to inform the doctor she was ready.
Sineade wasn’t so sure if she was ready or not. She feared that she would be getting bad news. It wouldn’t surprise her after what they had just been through. A few moments later Dr. Evelyn Chambers walked over to them, held out her hand to Tholan (since he was closest) and then to Sineade. “So it says here that you have been complaining of fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, and tissue sensitivity in the breast area, are there any other symptoms,” Chambers asked as she looked over the report she had been given from the Counselor earlier.
Sineade shook her head, “I think that covers it, but it sort of comes and goes, the nausea and appetite at least.” Dr. Chambers smiled and nodded her head, “I see. Well, let's get a good scan and see what is going on. If you’ll just lay back and relax.” Sineade’s eyes traveled to Tholan’s, heavy with worry, as she did as the doctor requested.
Tholan was suddenly called away by an urgent communique. His face showed confusion at the message, “My love, I must tend to something important.” He gave her a quick kiss then turned and hurried from the room and left her there alone. Sineade just watched in silent shock as he left, “I thought we were on leave?” She asked into the now empty space.
The doctor walked into the room and looked around, it was clear he was expecting to see Someone with her, “You’re alone? Well, no matter. I am Doctor Hyung. Let's see what we have here. It says you have been tired, nauseous, and there is some dermal sensitivity, is that correct, Lieutenant?”
Sineade nodded, still looking towards the door where Tholan had so quickly exited. “Yes… Umm.. that’s right. But I’ve been working a lot of extra hours lately. We had to make some major repairs without the aid of a space dock. And, well, I spent a lot of time with a friend who was injured when I was off duty.”
The doctor tsked a few times and then put down the PADD he was looking at and picked up a scanner. “Well, that would explain being tired, but not the rest, so let's just get a thorough exam done so we know what is happening.” He began at her head and slowly ran the scanner down her body and all the way to her toes. He looked at the readings and lifted his eyebrows slightly.
“If I may be so bold as to ask,” He said as he made some notes on the PADD, “have you been… intimate with anyone lately?” Sineade blushed, “I am not sure why that matters, but my fiancé and I had a very intimate shore leave several weeks back.”
The doctor nodded again, “Well, there’s your answer, Lieutenant. You are not ill. What you are suffering is called morning sickness. It’s a bit early but still not unusual. I am going to prescribe a pre-natal vitamin regimen and you should consult with your ship’s medical officer. “
Sineade looked at the doctor in shock, “Morning sickness? Pre-Natal? Are you saying… I’m pregnant?”
The doctor chuckled and nodded, “Yes, Lieutenant, that is exactly what I am saying. Congratulations!”
Sineade was given the prescription and released. She made her way back to her assigned quarters in a daze. She could only hope that Tholan would be there so she could tell him. But how was she going to tell the Commodore, or her family?
She arrived back at the quarters to find it way too quiet. Tholan wasn’t there. She sat on the couch and waited.
