Duty Log - Doing his Job, not mine!

399 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: 2nd Star on the Right....
Location: Main Engineeing, COE OFFICE

Sineade sat at the chief engineer's desk, the mass of data pads diminishing slowly as she worked. “Perhaps I should inform the XO of the status down here.” She said to herself. Leaning back in the chair she closed her eyes a moment, “Not a bad Idea, actually. Computer begin Duty log, Engineering Department, Sineade Darnell, Lieutenant.” The computer beeped an acknowledgement and replied, “You may begin log, Lt Darnell” Sineade pulled forward in her seat and began to speak, ”I have been going over the reports. It would appear as though at least a month’s worth of reports from the various sub-departments have neither been read or noted in any of the official reports to the command staff. And to make matters worse, I have no idea what happened to Lt. Cmdr Langley.
I have been in his office for the better part of two hours, after my shift, to sort through this mess. Duty rosters haven’t been updated either, so that is something else that needs to be done, sooner rather than later.

Also of note, supply requisitions have not been annotated or approved. And repair requests seem to be piling up as well. At least with this current mission, can’t believe they have us ferrying a bunch of lowlifes that they call ambassadors, but there should be enough down time for maintenance crews to get most of the repairs completed.

I have sorted through and organized the data by day, shift, and sub-department. Now at least I can see what has been done and what still requires attention. “Sinead got up and began walking around the office, “I suppose I will have to work on those schedules and the requests for time off, since CJ isn’t here to do it. Now I understand why he’s rarely out on the floor. He’s too busy with all of this report stuff.”

Sineade stopped for a moment, trying to think of what else she should say, but her mind was a blank. “Computer end log, save, and deliver copy to myself, LtCdr Langley, Captain House, and... Commodore Conner.”

It took a second before the computer replied, Log saved and delivered. Sinead nodded and sighed heavily as she looked at the desk. Moving back to the seat as she grabbed one of the pads and began to read the contents, “this could take... forever!”
