“The Second Assassin”
A Joint Personal Log by Lt. Flower Sheme and Ensign B’Raitha
Lt. Flower Sheme and Ensign B'Raitha materialized back in B'Raitha's
apartment, in Paris France. It was now about 1 .am. They both sported
the special pin that had been given them at the briefing in California.
"Perhaps you should call your father and let him know you are
fine," B'Raitha suggested.
Flower nodded her agreement and was just about to when her combadge
sounded. It was her commanding officer, Captain Mardel Conner. The news
she was now sharing made the ears of both felinoids go down.
"There are assassins after all of us, Sheme. I want you to be
extra alert and if you catch someone you don't trust watching you,
question them and turn them over to Starfleet Intelligence. However, if
they do attack, then you are free to kill them on the spot and then
inform Starfleet Intelligence. Other than being alert, do not act any
differently as you are on shore leave and that is the only impression we
want to give those trying to kill us. Use any asset you can during this
time, but don't tell anyone else about this, just in case they become a
target as well. Enjoy your time off."
The call ended and both felinoids just looked at each other for a
long moment. B'Raitha broke the silence. "Call your father and let him
know you are okay. We will deal with the rest."
Flower nodded and went straight for his console to make the call to the
embassy.
Back at the embassy, Ambassador Kethin Kesiun was with Casius, trying to
calm him down, “Casius, you know your daughter is fierce just like Rose
was.” He meowed softly.
“I know,” Casius replied with a soft growl. “It is just…
difficult. They no longer need me.” He then heard the buzz of an
incoming call.
Moving quickly to the communications console, the Catonian
leader pressed the accept control. His tail looped when he saw Flower’s
image. “Flowerpetal,” He said, trying to sound like the leader of their
planet, but coming off more like the worried parent he was. “Where are you?”
Flowerpetal purred a little amused with how her father was
trying to be strong, "Don`t worry, I am with B'Raitha at his apartment.
I can't go into much more detail than that father," she said trying to
not give her father the impression that she was now scared for her life.
On the monitor, Casius's ears showed he did fully believe his
daughter. "What do you mean you can't go into it," he demanded. "Go into
what?"
"Go into the actual attack, Sir," B'Raitha said jumping into the
conversation. He saw that Casius was not too pleased about it as well.
Still, he plowed on. "Starfleet is still analyzing the debris from the
two ships they destroyed that were responsible for the attack. They
released us about fifteen minutes ago."
Again, the Catonian leader's ears betrayed his true annoyance. His
eyes went back to his daughter, apparently accepting the response. "I
can find out more for you if you want, Flowerpetal," he said. "Will I
see you tomorrow?"
Flower looked over to Rait, "My Captain did say to use any asset at
our disposal. Maybe my father can help us. Do you have a shift
tomorrow?" she asked.
B'Raitha's ears went down, and his tail drooped. He knew he was now
out of sight for the monitor, so Casius would not have seen his
reaction. In as calm a voice as possible, he replied, "No. I have
requested the rest of the week off and it was granted." His ears came
partially up, but his tail did not. "Sure, we can go see your father
tomorrow."
Flower looked back to the screen, "Yes, Father you will see me
tomorrow. Ensign B'Raitha will also be with me." she said to her father.
"I don't know why you are not staying here tonight," Casius said,
his ears, again, betraying his annoyance, "but, very well. I shall see
you tomorrow, Flowerpetal. Nuzzles to you, my daughter." The call was
terminated and the screen returned to the Starfleet logo.
Flower looked at Rait, “He’s still worried about me, but I rather
snuggle up with you and forget about the assassins.” She nuzzled her
boyfriend lovingly.
B'Raitha nodded, allowing the annoyance he had been feeling fade.
He nuzzled Flower and the two retired for the night.
The next morning, instead of fixing breakfast, B'Raitha suggested a
small cafe' where they could have breakfast. The two walked the short
distance to the quaint eatery. B'Raitha kept his senses alert for any
sign of the elderly woman, but there were none.
As they were seated, B'Raitha looked around, carefully scanning
each of the four other patrons, whom he recognized as having been there
before. They did not seem to be paying them the slightest mind.
"They have a really delicious egg and catfish breakfast," he told
Flower.
Flower started to lick her chops anticipating the new taste that he
suggested to try, “That sounds like the purr-fect type of breakfast for
Felinoids. Also I appreciate all your support.” Flower purred as their
tails entwined.
"How could I do otherwise?" B'Raitha asked her.
The waitress came over, and B'Raitha ordered for the two of them.
He watched Flower and was glad to see she was enjoying the cafe'. He
heard the door to the establishment open, and watched the new patron
through the reflection of the man in the mirror on the opposite wall.
The man had glanced at the two, then took a seat at a table on the other
side of the room. B'Raitha thought he might be feeling a little too jumpy.
Flower felt her nose get bright, “At least my shore leave wasn’t
canceled. And is someone watching us, dear?” She asked noticing his eyes
were surveying the area.
"Not that I notice, at the moment," B'Raitha answered honestly. The
question made him glance in the mirror, again, in the direction of the
most recent patron, who was now giving his order to the waitress.
Flower allowed her tail to squeeze around his tail, showing him just
how scared she is right now. "B'Raitha... I do apologize if I kept you
awake last night. After my Captain letting me know that I have a price
on my fur right now, has just scared me, and I had some bad
nightmares..." Flower meowed really quietly to barely a whisper.
"I know," the Caitian replied just as softly. He increased the
tail-to-tail pressure just a little to reassure her. He was about to
offer some more assurance when the waitress arrived with their order.
B'Raitha hoped the aroma would help take her mind off things, if even
for a moment.
Flower's nose started to sniff as the meal was placed in front of
them, "Cant wait to try this! So what do you think we should do today?
Should we visit the Effle Tower or, should we visit Notre Dame?" She
asked as she allowed her food to cool off.
B'Raitha's ears twitched slightly as he glanced at the reflection
in the mirror. He then took a bite of his breakfast. "We should go to
the embassy, see what your father has to say before we decide to do
anything else," he offered.
Flower nodded her agreement, as she took a bite of her breakfast,
"Oh my Claws! Pawesome!" she exclaimed excitedly.
The very tip of B'Raitha's tail looped at her reaction. They ate
their breakfast with some small talk , including B'Raitha telling Flower
about the latest from his parents. As they were finishing up, Rait
pulled his PADD from its pouch and looked at the screen. He looked back
to Flower.
"You are going to have to go on to the embassy without me," he told
her, disengaging his tail from hers and rising. "I have to go over to HQ
and check in." As she rose, he nuzzled her gently. "I will meet you
there as soon as I can."
Flower also rose, and looked at him, "Call me paranoid, but I don"t
think its a good idea to be alone right now, as now you know why we are
wearing our new pins. We shouldn't be apart, and I probablly won't take
no for your answer, Ensign," she teased him lovingly.
"Ouch," B'Raitha replied, but his ears were fully forward, and his
eyes held amusement. "It will be fine. The embassy is not far, and I
will be there right after I report in with my unit commander." He
nuzzled her lovingly, and then handled the bill for the meal. He then
left the cafe'.
Flower watched him leave, praying that he gets to HQ safely. She then
left a tip on the table, for the waitress who served them, because the
eggs were just delicious. She then left the Cafe and turned to head to
the left, heading for the Embassy to see her father.
The man could scarcely believe his fortune. He was wondering how
he would take them both out, which he surely would have had to do, if he
had attacked the Catonian. Now, with the Caitian going in the opposite
direction, his job just got easier. He paid his bill and left the cafe'
following the Catonian.
He followed her over the next block, and grumbled to himself as she
was not making this easy on him. She was sticking close to the
storefronts as she walked and that would oft times partially hide her.
He needed her to remain in the open so he could get his pen-phaser to
pierce her body. He would have to do it in the next block, because the
Catonian embassy was just beyond that and, once she was in there, she
would be next to impossible to get to.
Coming around the corner, on the next block, he saw the shot was
optimal. The Catonian was alone and in the wide open. There were very
few places she could duck into. He pulled the phaser and raised it in
her direction.
"I'll take that," came a voice from directly behind him. He felt a
grip on his left shoulder and on his firing arm, pushing the phaser
downwards causing the beam to strike the pavement in front of them, then
the tool fell to the sidewalk. The man was turned around and he saw the
orange mane of B'Raitha. He brought his hand to his wrist control to
summon for transport.
"Yeah, that won't work, this time," B'Raitha told the man. "I just
slapped a transport inhibitor onto your shoulder." ;He spun the man
again, pulling his hand behind his back and cuffing him. His eyes went
immediately to Flower, who was now headed back in his direction.
Flower approached the two men, "You are either very stupid, or very
naive to try and sneak up on two Felinoids. Yes, I did have fun making
you try to catch me, as I saw you were following me in the windows."
She then grabbed onto the man’s arm, "Rait, I think we should let our new
friend see what happens to assassins, as they meet up with our other
friends from Starfleet" she said the latter with a growl, and her eyes
no longer looked sweet and innocent, as she was dead serious with her
threat.
"I think you're right," B'Raitha agreed. "Starfleet Intelligence
will love to have a talk with you." The man just gave the two a silent
glare, but he knew he was caught.
Flower walked with B'Raitha, making sure her paws firmly gripped her assassin, very tempted to also allow one of her claws to show just how dead serious was her threat. She wasn’t one to enjoy having to be hunted down. As they walked, she also knew that she would have to be the officer to hand him over, and that was going to be very sweet part of her morning. Perhaps this news will ease her extremely worried father back at the embassy.
Ten minutes later, and the three arrived at a transporter back to San Francisco, where Starfleet Intelligence was located. As they approached the entrance, Flower used her tail to hold her credentials to allow access into the building, as her paws were occupied with holding the man's hands. She handed her prisoner off with a growl towards the man.
She then turned her attention towards Rait, “Let’s return to Paris. I have a very worried father waiting to see me today. “
