PL - Where Will I Be Posted? (First Assignment Part 1)
By Ensign Kato Reon

Personal log, Ensign Kato Reon,

This will be my first entry as an Ensign. I can't believe it. It's been four years and I've completed my time at the academy. I'm actually done. I'll admit I've had a pretty good time while I was there. Because of that, I'll miss a lot of people. People who I've grown accustomed to seeing every day when I get out of the cadet barracks every morning. I had a great time seeing lectures from Lieutenant Dyshata during my spatial algorithms class or Commander P'Thuri during my Xenoweapons class. Hopefully I can really take everything I've learned and apply it well now that I'm about to get assigned to my first posting. That is something my classmates and I have really waited to see now that we're finally Ensigns.

Reon was in his room at the academy barracks. It was the day after graduation from the Academy. His family had already left to go back to Bajor on the USS Cheyenne early this morning and all that was left was the announcement of where he was to be assigned. Sitting at a desk next to the bunk bed he shared with his classmate, Sol ch'Thriennien, a young Andorian security and tactical cadet in his class, he was doing some reading about certain ships and starbases throughout the fleet, trying to learn all he could about things from layouts to personnel to events on those specific postings. Suddenly, the comm panel right before him flashed and sounded with somewhat loud beeping and the Academy logo was blinking with the words "incoming transmission" on the screen, causing him to put down the PADD in his hand, then tapped the answer function. On the screen was his classmate and friend, Rylo La Croix, who was in sciences. La Croix was a human male of African-American descent. His skin was a light brown and his hair was short but curly. The expression on his face was of wonder with his eyes wide and his mouth slightly opened.
"Hey, did you find out where you're posted?" he asked.
"No," Reon told him, "I didn't get any notification yet... And I haven't checked the boards myself yet either."
"You should check. I just got my assignment. I'm going to Starbase 62-Delta."
"Wow," he reacted, "Isn't that all the way out in the Delvamox Sector?"
La Croix nodded, "Yeah... It takes about six days to get there at maximum warp. I did some checking, and the transport to get there will be leaving tomorrow at 0800. I think we're going on one of those old Oberth-Class ships. Max speed of warp seven point eight."
      "That's terrible..."
Rylo nodded, "Yeah, but hey, I hear their science chief, Lieutenant Commander Survak, is one of the finest xenobiologists in the fleet. I've read some of his papers, so I guess the journey will be worth it once I get there."
      "Yeah...."
There was a pause between the two. Then Rylo started gesturing with his right hand in a circular motion and his eyes slightly widening again, indicating eagerness, "Well? You should really check your inbox."
Reon tilted his head and furrowed his eyebrows, "Why are you being so nosey?"
"Because you know I want to know!" Rylo admitted openly.
He sighed, then minimized his communication box, and opened his inbox. Low and behold, there was a message from the assistant dean of personnel, Commander Lene Parnham, stating that there was an important message from her. He opened it and read the message while Rylo sat quietly in wait as he continued to check out the message from his superior, "Hmm, looks like I've been assigned to the USS Aldrin."
"I don't know much about that ship...." Rylo admitted, "But at least you're being assigned to a ship and not a starbase or outpost."
"Honestly, I don't care where I'm assigned. As long as I get assigned somewhere. But you have a point. I think it's really nice to think of the fact that we'll be going all over the quadrant and wherever else exploring and doing all the things we are being sent out to do."
"It's going to be very odd not being able to see you or the others after tomorrow."
"Yeah, I know..." Reon said with a sigh, "But at least we'll always have our memories."
"True. Say, I don't know when you're leaving, but since I have to leave tomorrow morning, want to celebrate with me tonight? I'll round up the others. We can all have dinner at Siskos, then we can go to this Monjeli run Tavern that just opened a couple of days ago in the Tenderloin."
      Reon nodded, "Sounds good."
"Great. Meet you at the restaurant in an hour?"
      "Alright."
      "See you there."
Reon closed the communique, then sat back in his chair. He took a moment to breathe in, then out, then look around at everything. To his left was a picture of him, Rylo, and three of his other classmates before they took their zero-G training sometime earlier into their academy term. Next to it was another picture of them around their classmate, Rumis, who was a Bolian female and a sciences major, when she received an award for proficiency in her field of study last year. Then he looked out the window past the comm panel into the sun-filled scene of the waterfront that looked to the quad which was on the other side from where he was. He couldn't help but smile slightly at the notion of him going to miss the place once he's gone. At that moment, he finally realized how attached he had become to the place. He shook it off though, then stood up and headed out.
