Mardel changed from her body suit and skirt into her furs when she returned to her quarters. It felt right be in her native clothing. The twins were up and playing on the floor with each other and the holonanny. They were almost a year old now and starting to become mobile.
She got down on the floor and the twins moved to her side as fast as they could. She laughed with them and played games with them, games like she played as a little back on Orion. Games that taught you how to survive and use your environment for protection and attack. But it was all done through games, so it was natural. She helped them learn to climb and do it without leaving traces that they had climbed at all.
Daniel may not agree with what she was teaching their children, but they were Orion and they needed to know these skills even if they never set foot on Orion itself. She had given both of their children the traditional Orion beads, when they were older and could understand their importance, she would explain them and how to read them and make them. When they were older, she would also teach them things like knife work and making blades. How to hunt the predators and how to avoid the hunters.
She did test them as infants and both of them carried the rare gifts, that always bred true, of healing and wisdom. She had hoped that diluting the blood a little they might not have such strong gifts, but they were very strong indeed and if the Syndicate ever learned of them, they would be in extreme danger. She had to protect her children even more than most.
Unbeknownst to Daniel, she had programed the holonanny with defensive capabilities to protect their childern. She had told him of her testing of them and the results. So he knew they were gifted and would be hunted. How he chose to prepare them for their future was up to him, she was teaching them in the Orion way. At least their mixed blood gave them some protection against the weaknesses the full blooded Orions had, like to vitamin C and alcohol, but that isn't something they would have to worry about at such a young age. For now, they didn't have to worry about anything, Mardel and Daniel would see to that.
It did calm her some, to play with the children. Hearing them giggle and use their twin speak as well as the mix of Federation standard and Orion they were learning. At lunch, she made the meal herself, instead of having the nanny do it for the children and she made some traditional Orion foods, grilled japlin fish, fried conga root, and fresh paua fruit. It was a favorite along with the fusli greens and ginjan fruit to complete it. The twins enjoyed using their fingers to eat it all and were talking through the entire meal with enthusiasm. But soon after, they both started to slow down and yawn. Mardel let the nanny take them and put them down for a nap.
Now, it was time for Mardel to return to the world of the Federation again and maybe go see Teaya again. She took another shower and put on a clean body suit and skirt. She looked at the shipshoes and scowled. She was supposed to wear them, but it was a day off for her. She wondered if anyone would notice if she didn't wear them, for just one day. If they noticed, she would return and put them back on, if not, then she would enjoy the freedom.
