Sineade chuckled , "Well, I don't suppose he would. But those were the orders, make us look like a rock."
“That’s what Commander House ordered. “ Sheme agreed.
Sineade turned to the console where she'd plopped down, "I would think the first thing would to make sure any and all lights that can be observed from outside the ship be powered down."
Flower sat beside her , “I am no Tinker so I don’t know why he asked me to help you but I can try. Oh! I meant Engineer.”(edited)
Sineade laughed, "I am sure he has his reasons. You are the tactical officer are you not?." She paused a moment and slid her fingers over the console. The screen in front of them changed to show the current power consumption.
“I am the tactical officer yes. Sometimes I slip into my kinds terms,” she looked at the screen. “The defense shield is activated. “
Sineade nodded, " So no lights. That's good. But we need to reduce power output to minimum levels and allow the ship to drift." She sighed; this is where the Lt.'s skills would come in handy. "How easy is it to keep us safe in the belt without using any of the deflectors?"
“Well right now, we are drifting. Lt. Conner said that before I was ordered to help you. “
Sineade nodded, "I know, no impulse or station keeping. My biggest concern is that of our power image. Internal power consumption could be a problem." She sighed deeply, "I really hope the Chief doesn't kill me for even thinking about it, but everything turned off except life support and tactical scanners?"
“Are you afraid to suggest it to the Chief?” Sheme asked.
Sineade glanced at the Lt. "Quite frankly, Yes. First, I am just an Ensign, and second, I was working gamma shift two days ago and now I am trying to do this? And if it doesn't work, the chief will have my hide pinned to the wall."
“This wasn’t your order. The Chief should respect that. I can even tell him for you if you want. “
Sineade sighed again, "While I appreciate the offer, and I really do, I can't let someone else take the blame for me. My idea, my risk, right?"
“Okay, I won’t argue with you. I don’t know much about you, tell me about yourself. “
Sineade raised an eyebrow, "Me? What's to know, I am an engineer. I grew up knowing this was what I wanted, but I prefer the quiet of Delta shift. I can read up on tech manuals and work on my designs and such. I do sometime let my Irish out though." Sineade shrugged, "What about you?"
“Well I graduated from the academy last year, went on a personal quest to find some answers about my mother. Was assigned here as my first assignment. “
Sineade nodded slowly, "I hope you were able to find out what you needed to know. " She turned in the seat and punched in a few calculations to run a simulation. "My parents and twin brother still live on the family farm. My maternal grandfather used to inspect the shipyards and I went with him a lot. I am more like him than I am my parents."
“I did get my answers. She died as I was born. I didn’t have a mother growing up. On my planet, Catonia, if we are born with rock hard pads under our paws, then we are supposed to be Defenders and Protectors. I was born with these pads, but because I looked exactly like my mother, my father tried to push me onto a more safer Path. “
Sineade, "I know how that is. Parents seem the same all over. Especially fathers. Mine sure didn't want me joining Starfleet and going out into space." She glanced between Lt. Sheme and the console, "I am sorry about your mother. I don't know what I would have done without mine."
“I had my oldest sister with me. Anyways, I tried medical at the academy but...I couldn’t even hold a simple tricorder. I started to think that I was meant for something else.”
"I am sure it wasn't that bad, after all, you're here on the ship, not in medical but still here," Sineade said with a smile
“Yeah. Tactical or Defender however you want to say it,“ she purred.
Sineade nodded, "I guess that just is a natural part of your makeup. You would not be happy anywhere else."
“My kind can be very fierce when called to action. Even I have demonstrated how fierce I can be. “
Sineade chuckled, "Then I think it's good you are on our side. I don't think I am that fierce. I'm too busy reading tech manuals or fixing things."
“Well why don’t we send your idea up to the Captain. I bet she would appreciate your efforts,” Flower suggested as she tapped a PADD.
Sineade nodded to the Lt. "I know she would like to know what is going on. And don't forget to mention your help as well. Having someone to talk with was.... different and actually helped a lot."
Flower stood up, “I won’t. It was a pleasure talking with you to. Well I will get this idea up to the captain right now. “
Sineade nodded, "I hope to see you around Lt."
“I am sure you will. “ Flower leaves engineering and heads to the bridge.
