2,660 words; about a 13 minute read

Mission: Refit and Restock
Location: Cabin and Starfleet Medical

“Smells good, you sure you don’t want some of these other peppers for yours? I could make a puree with them.” Grinning and trying it, it was good. Taking a sip from his fifth beer.

"Nooo thank you." Teaya dug into her food. "Mmm this is good"

“Still would be better.” Sticking his tongue out at her. “Which yes, I’m going to use later.” Before she could even try to say that, if she was going to.

Her eyes got big, mid section clenched with the promise he just made and everything in her just melted into a puddle.

“What?” Finishing up the food he had, and, set the tray down. Smiling lightly a little bit to her.

"You are nothing but trouble."
Finishing her wine she was completely full, she couldn't finish her food.

“Isn’t that than not being trouble and boring?” Getting up and moving to get both of the trays, “I’ll take these back in and get the stuff for the smores.”

"Ok, thank you." Teaya poked at the fire a bit stoking it to low flames for their marshmallows waiting for Dean to return.

While Dean was in there putting things up, also washing things so she didn’t have to later. There was a lot of shifting in the brush around the camp fire. Not any cracks of leaves or twigs on the ground but it sounded like movement.

Teaya fought like a wild cat. She tried screaming for Dean but her mouth was covered and couldn't scream.

That was the purpose, get her before she could make a sound. There was the attempts to try and hypo her to farther shut her up and get her to stop struggling. So either kill her or take her back for bait and interrogation.

Teaya was finally able to bite his hand and scream. Albeit was a bit muffled, she was still able to scream his name. "DEAN!" She struggled to get to her boot knife she just couldn't bend far enough.

Obviously the shadowed Cardassians didn’t like that, so one of them hit her in the head, instead of the hypo. Dean heard that and the urgency in her voice. Dropped what he had in hand and ran outside. After grabbing the phaser from under the counter.

The hard hit to her head was painful and made her see stars and everything around her was starting to go black. Teayana struggled to not lose consciousness. She finally gave in against her will and passed out.
Well it would have been better if she’d not passed out for Dean and her fight more, but it is what it was happened. Since she was out though, that left the two of them to try and jump Dean as he came outside. That was definitely a mistake, but not without its consequences. That probably took at least ten minutes to quell the situation. Teaya may or may not have come back to consciousness while that was going on.

Teaya slowly came around. It took a moment for her to realize where she was. Slowly grabbing her knife, she jumped up and got on his back, screamed and pulled the knife across his throat. He tried to yell but all he could do was gurgle before slumping to the ground.

Okay, well that was one way to get rid of one of them. The other one, Dean was still in CQC(Close Quarters Combat) with. Pretty well blows and being stabbed three times wasn’t fun but that was completely ignored. Putting the Cardassian down finally instead of killing him.

Teaya took huge gulps of air. Her head throbbed. She saw the other Cardassian go down. "Dean" she struggled to get up but she did and went to him.

Just as soon as it was detected, the signal was sent and it took long enough in those seconds of the right for the transporter lock to kick in and they were beamed directly to Starfleet Medical.

“Well that was..friggin fun…” Giving a huff a moment. “Are you okay?” Her health was more important.

"I'm fine, you're blessing. What are we doing with him? Taking him back?" She caught her breath but was still breathing a little hard.

“Not fast enough..” Also giving heavy breaths. “Tie him up and yes, take him back.” Reaching to hold his left side.

With her first aid kit, she found at the beam in point, in hand she began scanning him with the tricorder. "Oh babe…" she cut his shirt away and began cleaning him up and patching him up the best she could. Going to the bedroom she grabbed him a clean shirt. Came back, cleaned his face off and gave him his shirt. "I need something for a headache and I'll be ready to go when you are." She tenderly caressed his cheek. "I love you and thank you" Kissed his forehead.

He probably should have flinched but didn’t. Either he was just being macho, or was that used to it. Giving a look at what she was doing, as she was doing it. “You also need to be checked for a concussion.” Smiling lightly to her, “I love you too, and you’re welcome.” Oh look..he said it and it wasn’t word vomit.

It was close. There was a bathroom where they were transported to, so Teaya went in it. She had time to reflect in the bathroom as she was getting pain reliever. Teaya began to shake uncontrollably. Bracing herself against the small vanity to try and regain control. Wait until you're alone. She mentally scolded herself. Wiping away the tears that threatened to spill and while still shaking it wasn't as bad when she splashed cold water on her face. Wiping excess water and taking a cleansing breath then exited the bathroom.

Once she came out, the Medical staff were alerted the moment they were transported, was set up she turned on him with a stunned look. "Are you serious? Dean those aren't scratches they are deep wounds. I'm not that kind of doctor, I only have field grade training. Medical for you, end of story." They had three minutes before they transferred and just spent a minute of that discussing why he should be going to medical. Thick headed men.

Dean didn’t actually shrug any, but he wasn’t worried about himself either, just her. He could already tell something was off. If she wasn’t going to go neither was he. Period.

The Cardassian in custody, Teaya took his hand and looked at him tenderly. "Let's wait here." She knew her going was the only way to get him there and she still had a killer headache. Not realizing her head injury was more than a headache or minor concussion.

She would be right about that one, and went ahead with her. He wasn’t beneath going, just other priorities also.

Once the Medical staff got there they shuffled Dean to one room and was going to take Teaya to another but refused and wanted to stay with Dean. They explained they weren't married and she needed to go to another room. She became aggravated and argumentative. Not her at all. Then her blood pressure dropped and the color left her face to an ashen color before collapsing.

Dean assured her he’d be fine. Giving a breath a moment while he sat down on the bed, but then when she dropped he moved over to her faster than the rest of them. “Dammit, Teaya. Told you.” Giving a glance to the medical staff, “She got hit in the head.”

In her state of unconsciousness her mind was playing scenes she didn't want to see. Dean lying dead in a pool of blood. It played in a horrible loop unaware of the chaotic reality going on around her.

Obviously he couldn’t see that, however, there was still the urgency of her needing to be seen first.

Moved to the bio bed, immediate scans of her head. Swelling, bleeding the doctor muttered. "Commander this is serious. Your Counselor is in very serious condition."

“It doesn’t take a Doctor to figure that much out...Doctor.” Giving a sigh. “Instead of explaining out something already figured, how about doing something about it.”

"At this point Commander there isn't much we can do." A grim line that was his mouth formed. "It's up to her. We can only monitor and give supportive care at this point." Giving a once over of the monitors once the nurses finished. "Let's get you taken care of. You're no good to her in your condition"

“You can sod off and your evaluation. I know well enough you can do more than you are leading on. So do it.”

He shook his head. "Commander, don't make me call security. Lt. Starr has to do some healing on her own. If we interfere to soon, we could do more harm than good." Sighing in exasperation…"Let me do my job and you get patched up so you can return if you like."

He rolled is eyes and didn’t say what was on the tip of his tongue. “Fine, do it in here.”

The doctor gave up and he and the nurses began taking care of him. After the scan he began healing his wounds. "Did Lt. Starr patch you up? If so she did a good job." After a few moments he finished. "Mia will stay and watch the monitors and be here in case you need something." He took his leave.

“Yeah, she did that." Giving a look down a moment at the bloodied shirt. Might as well get rid of that. Taking it off and tossing it over to the hazard trash recepticle.

Teaya lay unconscious on the bio bed. Looking small and frail, even though she was far from that. She lay so still but in her mind the horrible loop kept playing unable to get to Dean to help him and when finally reached him, he was already dead in a pool of blood. Why wouldn't it stop.

Dean pulled a chair over and sat down, taking her hand, leaning to kiss her forehead. Kissed her lips, and lifted her hand to kiss that as well. “I’m right here, Teayana.”

Teaya had been unconscious for 12 hours. Mia came in to check on Teaya's scans and to see if Dean needed anything. "Commander, the swelling has stopped and her newest scan shows the swelling has actually decreased by 10%. It's a small amount but certainly a big step considering where she was 12 hours ago. Is there anything I can get you? More water, food? You haven't eaten since you've been here." Looking at him with deep concern. "I will call her doctor and let him know. He should be able to begin treatment."

“I told you there was something that could be done.” Shaking his head, those of little faith. “I don’t feel like eating, I’ll eat once she’s awake. I could use more water however. Thank you.”

Mia left and efficiently returned with his water. As she turned to leave the doctor came in. Giving a curt nod to Commander House. "Seems Lt. Starr is a fighter." He began his intensive scans. "We will begin the process to ensure the swelling continues to decrease. At this rate she should wake in a few hours with our assistance."

“She damn well better be. If things go well down the road, I intend to ask her to marry me.” Thanking Mia for the water and taking a few drinks. “I’ll be here when she wakes up.”

With the final treatment the doctor turned to Dean. "The rest is up to her."

“I know it is and she will get through it just fine.” Looking to her and knew she would. Dean still wasn’t going to leave, but he did lay his head down on her chest. Eventually falling asleep.

Teaya's eyes fluttered then closed. Something heavy on her chest. She reached her hand up to see what it was. It was a man's head. Through the grog of trying to wake tears rolled silently down her cheeks. Her fear was real. He was dead. With a gasp and a stutter breath a small sound escaped.

Obviously he wasn’t dead. Then again he didn’t know what dreams she’d been having. Shifting a little bit on her chest and nuzzling a little more.

"Dean" she whispered hoarsely. Her mouth dry and bright light maybe they were both dead.

“Mmm?” Shifts his head a little bit to look at her sleepily opening his eyes. “Yes, love?”

"Dean?" Her eyes opened completely. "Dean! Oh Dean, you're alive, you're okay!" Tears threatened to spill. "Oh baby" she reached up to touch his face.

Dean smiled to her and kissed her palm, leaning up. “Well of course I’m alive, why wouldn’t I be, Teaya?”

"I was having a horrible nightmare." She rubbed her forehead. "I have a slight headache." In spite of the headache she couldn't help the smile. "Oh Dean."

“So..in this nightmare, I was dead then.” Making a bit of a face, “Well obviously I’m not. I’m to stubborn. They said also that you will be fine after a bit.”

"Can we go home?"

Dean shook his head, “No, baby. We both were hurt pretty bad. We have to stay here awhile. We also have to be debriefed.”

Letting out a heavy sigh. "I need a bigger bed" said flatly. "These certainly aren't made for the patients comfort in mind."

“I don’t know that there is much I can do about that, Teaya. We can ask. I need to alert them you are awake to start with.” Reaching to push the Nurse console button by the bed.

" I just want to be released. Any information on our "friends?" The nurse came in just as she finished her question. Teaya twisted her mouth as she knew Dean couldn't say anything with her there.
"Lt. Starr, you're awake."
"I have a slight headache but I'm fine. Can I be released?"
"I'm afraid that's up to the doctor, however your scans look excellent considering."

Dean shook his head, “No, nothing as of yet. I’m also sure that Mardel has been contacted about the incident and attack as well as Starfleet Intelligence.” Giving a look to the nurse. “Well that’s good then obviously. He obviously said it anyway, though that wasn’t much for the nurse to go off of to start with.

"Of course." Shortly the doctors came in as if on que.
"Lt.Starr, you gave us a bit of worry."
Teaya gave him a nod. "As you can see I'm fine now. I promise to rest. May I be released?"
"I'm afraid not. We need to keep you for 24 hours."
Teaya huffed. "Then I need a bigger and more comfortable bed."
"Lt. This is a hospital, not a hotel."
Teaya looked at the doctor then to Dean and back.
Teaya began removing her leads from her chest.
"Let's do the debrief and go home. I'm done." She shot a glaring look at her doctor.

“Teaya, stop that.” Stopping her and at least trying to get her to lay back down. Looking to the Doctor. “Go set up a better room. I know there are some. Its that, or we’ll be back here again if something goes wrong. If that does happen, you do not want to see me. For everyone’s health in this room, I suggest you do as ordered.”

Teaya stopped."I just want to go home. Please" She had had enough. She would go home and rest but she didn't want to be here. The bright lights, the sterility of the room. She hated everything about it.
