Mission:
Ghost Hunting Season
Location: Corridor -USS Aldrin
With Aldrin now back on Earth, Simon had returned to the ship to find that it was locked down by Starfleet and most of the crew off either on leave or in some meeting, after all, he had been at his mother's side when the house had caught fire and had missed the ship when it had departed for its last mission, Now he was back, Simon made a be a line before the Commodore who he had found was on the planet below and report back into her. He stepped and the nearest turbolift and turned to face the doors.
He said, “ Transporter room,”
In the quarters supplied by Starfleet Command, Mardel was able to relax a little and enjoy some time with Daniel and the twins. At the moment, they were all sitting on the floor playing a game with a ball. The twins laughing hysterically whenever Daniel or herself missed the ball, not realizing they were doing it on purpose to make the twins giggle. Then a chime sounded and Mardel wondered who was trying to call them with the communications blackout. "I'll be right back." She said and got up and went to the office and turned on her screen to accept the message. It was Starfleet Command warning her that one of her junior crewmen who had been dealing with family matters was on his way to speak with her. She nodded and said she would meet with him outside in one of the courtyards and then went to tell Daniel what was going on and that she would be back soon and left to go to the courtyard and select a bench to sit on and enjoy nature while she waited.
Simon arrived hoping that the Commodore knew he was on his way to see her and apologize for missing the ship, he looked around the courtyard with the stone pillars and found the Commodore sitting alone on a bench. as he moved towards her he said " Commodore, Ensign Simon Hunter, reporting for duty Ma'am," as he hoped that she was not angry with him for missing his assignment.
She looked up at Simon and patted the bench next to her. "How is your mother and the house? Have you moved her into something else and taken care of all the red tape?" She asked simply as he approached, her voice neutral. "As for duty, we are off duty for at least a month due to the last mission. I'm just relieved you didn't have to go through that, Ensign Hunter."
"Ma'am," as he sat down next to her, He continued " I have her in a rented apartment for now, but the house is a wreck and might need to be rebuilt," as he knew that his Mom hated the small Apartment block she was in , he finished, "but the red tape is difficult as they won't listen to me as the site manager called me a grunt and come back when I am a commander,"
"I don't think that will be necessary. Hold on a moment." Mardel tapped her combadge. "Rigel, I have a small problem with a civilian land lord. One of my crew was unable to be on the last mission with us as the home his mother lived in burned down on the last day. He asked to stay and take care of it for her and I granted that for him. His mother is in a temporary apartment and the owner of the land the house was built on told my officer than since he was only an ensign, he wouldn't do anything about the rebuild and to come back when he was promoted to commander. Do you think you could straighten out this misguided civilian?" She listened for a moment and then nodded. "Thank you, Rigel. We are in the middle courtyard." Then she turned back to Hunter.
"Okay, Simon, a friend of mine, who is an admiral, will be here in a moment and will get the information from you about this property manager and take care of it for you. I would do it myself, but there are circumstances that won't allow it. You can take the rest of the time we have here on Earth to make sure the house is built to your satisfaction and that your mother is moved in nicely. You will be informed of when we will be leaving so you will be able to join us."
"Thank you, Commodore, for your help and the time to sort Mom out," replied Simon knowing that a month would help start the rebuild and her settled, as he needed to have all the paperwork ready for the Admiral, He asked, "May I use one of your terminals so I may have everything ready?"
"Wait until Rigel gets here and talk to him about it." She started and then stopped as she saw Rigel walking toward them. He was a tall, Hispanic Human with a ready smile. He stopped by them and smiled at Mardel and then looked at Simon and held out his hand. "Rigel, this is Simon Hunter. He's the one with the problem."
Rigel looked at Simon and smiled. "So, what is this about a property manager who isn't willing to help out Starfleet?"
"Sir," replied Simon looking back at the senior officer he continued," I was about to leave for the Aldrin when I got a call from My Mom that she had lost the house due to that it had burnt down," as he remembered her sobbing down the coms channel, "I then had to stay behind and get her sorted into an apartment for the time being and get her house rebuilt and the Manager will not do anything unless I pay more for the house or I am a Commander," as he also remembered the confrontation with the Manager from Prime construction.
Rubbing his chin thoughtfully a moment. "What is this person's name and where can I find him?" Rigel asked simply.
"His Name is Paul Ingram and you can find him at his firm in the east end of London in Green street," replied Simon as he remembered that he had been dealing with him over comms, he continued " as Mom's house was in the UK," as she had refused to move years ago.
Rigel stood. "Don't worry, we will take care of this right now. And since you can't be here right now as it breaks protocol, I will return to the UK with you and we will deal with it and you can stay with you Mother to make sure everything is done to your satisfaction." He turned to Mardel. "Thank you for contacting me. And have a nice day."
Mardel smiled and left Simon with Rigel and went back to her family. Rigel took Simon to his office and his personal transporter and whisked them both to the UK and the officers of one Paul Ingram, property manager and walked into his office without stopping at the secretary's desk.
Mister Ingram started to sputter and saw Simon and frowned. Before he could say anything, Admiral Mason leaned forward, hands on Paul's desk. "This fine Starfleet Officer has tried for the past several months to get you to do your job and rebuild the house that burned down. Now I looked into that house fire and discovered it was arson and you collected quite a large sum for it's loss and didn't share with the tenants who has insurance for just such an occasion, thus stole from them as well as dragging your feet in the rebuild and trying to extort more money from them. Now I am here to inform you that you have 30 days to completely rebuild that house, to code and to their wishes without taking a single penny from them. And if I hear that you have given him or his mother anymore grief, I will have you prosecuted for starting that fire, embezzling the funds that were to go to rebuilding and stealing the monies that were to go to the tenants. Now, do we understand each other, Mister Ingram?"
Swallowing hard, Paul Ingram only nodded. "Good. Now I will be going, but know that I am watching you and you won't know how or where. You will be polite and respectful to Officer Simon Hunter of Starfleet." He then turned to Simon. "Now, I'm sure there won't be any more trouble. You can get things done as you need and will be able to move your mother back into her home before the end of the month."
"Thank you Admiral for your help," replied Simon as he watched the senior officer leave the room, he turned to look at the Property manager and said" Now, Mr. Ingram about my Mom's house," as he knew that whatever he asked for he was going to get as the gentleman opposite knew that he only had to put a call in and he was up the creek without a paddle.
