1,020 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Going Home
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline:

ON:

Teaya was ready for a break from her office and the bridge. She decided to stretch her legs a bit and made her way to the mess hall. She didn't come here often, she usually went back to her quarters to eat in peace. Today was one of those odd moments where she wanted company of others.

Missy watched from afar in the room, at the back with a PADD next to a bowl of soup. Seen someone who needed help and flagged her down then pointed to a chair across from her.

Teaya gave the Ensin a smile and walked her way after grabbing her sandwich, salad and drink.
"How are you doing?"Teaya saw her PADD. "If you're working I can sit else where. I wouldn't want to interrupt work."
She had not set her tray down yet. Interrupting work was the last thing she would want to do.

Missy Smiled “I’m Fine… And that ain’t work it’s my reading activity about home.” Pushing the chair out with her foot under the table she said “Take a seat. I’m Missy. Missy Killer and I'm El-Aurian. You feel stressed and need a girly chat.”

"Hi Missy, I'm Lt. Teayana Starr. But Teaya is fine." She gave Missy a soft smile as she set down her tray and pulled out her chair to sit.
"Any chat besides work would suit me just fine right now. What is it you like to do in your free time?"
She took a bite of her salad as she waited for the young woman to answer.

Missy smiled. “I like my fitness, it’s either workout or practice close combat skills. Oh I'm a security and intelligence officer not a shrink who’s main department is tactical control.”

Teaya gave a small chuckle." It seems I'm guilty of the latter. I'm the ship's counselor." If an El-Aurian could blush rosy, she could have swore she saw a quick change on the young womans face.
"But don't worry, I take no offense to being a shrink as most put it." Smiling, she finished up her sandwich and took a drink of her ginger tea.

“I know. I’m with intelligence I predict you're a counselor so I tested your calmness by calling you a shrink.” Afterwards she took a spoonful of soup and emptied the spoon in her mouth.

"I hope all is well at home." The last thing she wanted to do is get into a battle of wits with anyone at the moment. Down time and getting to know more of the crew before she met them in her office or for their evaluations was her goal. Alienating crew members before getting to know on a personal level had it's pros and cons. Teaya preferred to be "friends" it generally made her job easier in the end. Rarely did anyone use their friendship as a vice for their own good when it came to evaluations or needing her services.
One thing that made her excellent at her job was she could distance herself from the personal level and be completely professional.

“My family… Well mummy was an ambassador and birthed me and left me with daddy. He sold me into slavery to pay of debts when I was 5.” Missy laid back into her chair looking up smiling. “At the age of 12 i was a self employed bounty hunter… I killed them.”

Teaya kept that in mind when she would have to eventually meet up with her for her evaluation but now was not the the for this conversation.
"Interesting and good to know, but was actually referring to your choice of reading. You had said you were reading news of your home world."
Just then her Chrono chirped. "I'm terribly sorry it's time for me to get back at it. I have an appointment in 15 minutes. I do hope to see you again. Take care and nice meeting you."

Missy nodded “Want me to walk you over? My assignments don’t get me near that area.”

Teaya stood picking up her tray. "Sure, I'd like that."

Missy Grabbed her bowl and followed behind “Lead on… I was reading this months intel about the Orion Slave Market and yes i was on there for a year. Was a bartender aged 6 and was used to put poison into drinks.”

Teaya nodded. "Just know I'm available to talk as a friend or professional if you ever need to. I don't care how hard core tough someone is, things that happen in our lives do affect us in negative and positive ways. So if past life ever gets in the way, just know I'm always here."

“I’ve been in prison 3 times and broke out of 2 and survived. But i’ll think about your offer. Just you don’t trust anyone afterwards with the life I've had.” Missy said with a tone of sadness in her voice.

The two women exited the lift and was almost in front of Teaya's office.
"I completely understand that, however when you feel ready, I'm here. I do hope your heart wins the battle over your head and realize I can be trusted. The only time anything personal would be passed is if it is something that would go on your personal file. And as you know, very few have access to that.
Anyway this is my office. Feel free to stop in anytime. If I'm not busy we can have a beverage and snacks if you like."
Teaya unlocked her door and it softly swished open.

Missy leaned against the doorframe “Cheers… i might now walk past this office when i’m handling my analysis and wave when i walk past.

Teaya stepped in sideways to politely keep Missy in her sight.
"Sounds like a good plan. Take care and talk to you soon."
Teaya turned away from the door as Missy turned to walk away. She left her door open for her up coming appt that would be there in 10 minutes.
