Captain’s Log
Commodore Mardel Shayron-Connor
USS Aldrin

Mardel felt it, but needed to be sure. And it wasn’t that she didn’t trust the medical system in the Federation, but this was something she only trusted to the Orion ways. After all, she was an Orion healer as well as trained in all medical and counseling practices within the Federation and Starfleet. She had been CMO before being thrown into command positions.

She left the bridge, knowing and trusting in her executive officer. Dean was more than just her second in command, he was her friend and his wife was her friend. She knew that he would continue on with their orders and would keep the ship safe while she was gone. But Daniel would need to be told to stay. He would want to follow her and she couldn’t have that. He would understand when she talked to him at dinner.

Then she went to her quarters and was glad that their twins were still at school and the nanny would be activated when they came home. They both had the green skin of the Orions, but they had their father’s dark hair and eyes. They both also had their father’s touch of telepathy and empathy, which was novel in anyone with Orion blood. She was okay with that, it meant that they would always have contact with their father and he with them. It gave her comfort. Of course they had scandalized their elementary class with just how thorough an Orion education they had and Mardel smiled at that. She had told the teacher that her children would be brought up with both the Orion and Federation cultures and education. The teacher had sputtered a bit, but couldn’t say anything about it to her as she was right, the children were Orion as well as Betazoid and Human mix and had the right to live whichever culture their parents chose for them at this age and then when they were older chose for themselves. Both twins were also healers, that always ran true in Orions.

In her quarters, she went to her special room and unlocked and walked in and then locked it behind her. Then she striped down and took a cleansing shower. Then she pulled out the special pool and filled it from the special jars she kept in stasis in a storage closet. Then she stepped into the pool and submerged herself in the fluid she called the water of women.

When she sat up, she wasn’t alone any longer. There were several other women with her in that special room, though the scans wouldn’t show them as being on the ship, so no one would know. She held up her hands to them.

“I need to know, am I reading my body right?” She asked the other women. They each came forward and touched her and then sucked on their fingers for a moment. Then they all nodded. “Then I am breeding again.”

“Truly, Sister, you are with child again. This one will be even more special than the twins. You will understand when you meet this spirit that you are growing. You are to be honored with this one.” They each took turns saying part of this as if in chorus.

“Like Larie special?” Mardel asked, a little worried.

The youngest of the women, who was in reality the eldest, stepped forward and felt Mardel’s abdomen. “Yes, and no. She will not be like Larie, the one to bring the past and present together in harmony. No, she will have an even harder path before her. But that is something you will discover. But she is also spoken of in the ancient works. You are well Sister/Daughter/Mother. You are growing stronger, you will need to be with this one. She will be…..willful.”

Mardel laughed a little at that. “Aren’t we all, Sister/Daughter/Mother? Thank you, for coming to me now and for the visit. Have you checked in on Larie? Is she well? I haven’t been able to reach her recently.”

“Larie is also growing stronger and starting to grow into what she is supposed to be. She is well, but she is still hunted only because they can’t figure out how to get her. She is well protected. However they are not ones to give up easily, so it will still be some time before they realize she is just as out of their hands as you are. You are no longer hunted, which is a blessing.” Another of the women said.

“That is good. Thank you for keeping watch over Larie. Does she know?” Mardel asked, curious.

“No, but then she doesn’t have the necessary items to contact us. And she doesn’t have the necessary privacy for something this sacred. It is okay, she will have them, one day. I also see that like you ,she will one day breed. She hasn’t made that choice yet, but we have seen it.”

Mardel laughed. “Probably not. Okay. When I am able to, I’ll see about making arrangements for Larie to get what she needs. May the universe watch over you and bless you and the people. Tell the clans that I am well and wish them all well. We will come and visit when we may so that the twins and this new one can undergo the right ceremonies.”

“All is well. We will be ready when you arrive. Peace be with you and may the universe watch over you and bless you.” They then all left and Mardel was alone again in her room. It had been a few hours, but she didn’t mark the passage of time when she was in this room.

Just as she had carefully filled the pool, so did she just as carefully put the fluid back in their canisters and put them into stasis. Then she cleaned the pool and put that away as well. Then she went back to the shower and cleaned up again. Patting her own belly and then smiling and then started laughing. Three of the ladies of the Aldrin were all expecting children together. They would all be born within a few months of each other. She wasn’t sure the Aldin would survive. But somehow they would figure it out. She also made plans to add more nanny programs to the main computer as they would be needed.

Then when she was clean, she got dressed again and left her room and locked it again behind her. It was almost dinner time and her shift would be over for the day. The twins were home and she could hear them doing their homework with the nanny. She went into the kitchen to start dinner, still thinking about what she had learned and how the ship and crew would survive the population boom that was going to happen. She did like the idea and smiled about it. It would be nice to share such a time with both Sineade and Teaya.
