429 words; about a 2 minute read
LT. M. Drysdale
Morgan laid on his back across his bed and stared up at the blinking screen on the pad held out stretched in his hand and let his green eyes flick across the screen over and over again reading the same few lines of text. Morgan tossed the padd to the side and rolled to his feet as he stood and began to stretch out his neck. “You are hereby ordered to report to Alpha Shift…”
Morgan continued to stretch his neck and back by lifting his arms over his head, along with his shirt as he headed towards the head. ‘Good Job Morgan….someone must have noticed you’ he monologue to himself as he tossed his shirt towards the bin he used for laundry. He grabbed some of his work out apparel from his closet and quickly changed and then headed out of his quarters to begin his work out routine.
While working out he began to think through some of the things that have been happening and what might have caused the shift from gamma to alpha but ultimately decided it was beyond his control, and might be a good thing in the long run. The kicker that he was thinking through the most was the change in hours and how long it would take him to adjust to a new sleeping pattern. With another resigned sigh he just shrugged mid workout. “Nothing I can do about that either. It will take what it takes…”
Drenched in sweat from a workout to consist of martial arts training, cardio runs, and some light weight lifting he padded back into his quarters. “Computer dim lights to thirty percent. Set an alarm for 2 hours pre alpha shift…” He quietly said a thank you when the computer acknowledged the requests and headed to the shower to bathe and shave. Once complete he slept, as best he could till the alarm woke him.
Pulling a fresh uniform and garments out he made sure that they were immaculate in appearance and then prepared a cup of coffee. Once he had a few cups, and dressed he grabbed his hand phaser, attached it to his belt and headed to the Security hall and began to work on meeting his new co workers for this shift, introducing himself to the chief and learning more about what duties would fall to him on this shift.
At the appointed hour for Alpha shift he officially signed into the terminal he was assigned logged in his credentials.
“Lieutenant Drysdale, Assistant Chief of Security reporting for duty…”
