1,719 words; about a 9 minute read

Mardel looked down at her own body. Still slender and lithe, but there was now an almost noticeable thickening at her waist. She looked back at Daniel. “I’m worried that stronger blockers will do us both harm.” She told him, trying to hold back the flood of emotions washing over her.

Daniel held Mardel and looked into her eyes. "I know, Love. I don't want to use strong blockers either." He rests her head and kisses the top of her head.

Mardel pushed away and paced, trying to get her impulses under control. She wanted to rage right now. She wanted to rip things and people to shreds. She knew that getting aggressive was one of the symptoms of her current condition, but she was hoping to avoid that.

Daniel got a bit scared and grabbed her hand. "Let's take a trip to the Holodeck. So you can get that anger out of you."

She nodded to him and let him guide her to the holodeck. “Which program, Danny?” She started to shake, her fists in tight balls at her sides, her arms held rigid.

He goes to the console and sets up a program that will do her good. "I got you a program set during Earth's World War 2. You'll be in the heart of Germany. Berlin to be exact."

She looks at him. “Really? A green person on Earth during WWII in the country trying to wipe out everyone who wasn’t considered racially pure? What am I supposed to do, run and hide?”

He shook his head and rubs her arms. "No. You are to help rid of those Nazi bastards. And to relieve some of that built up anger."

“Okay. I’ll give it a shot.” She enters the holodeck and gets into her fighting mindset and then begins to rip through the enemy troops like they were tissue paper. She paused to allow a patrol of Nazi’s to catch up to her. “This is pretty easy, Danny. I’m sorry, but humans just aren’t that strong.”

He nodded and walked up to her. "Do you feel a bit better though? We can try something else if you like." He wraps an arm around her and smiles a bit.

Shaking her head. “It’s taken a fraction of the edge off. I need something that will challenge me, engage both my mind and body and not just be another workout.” She looked at Daniel. “I’m sorry I’m being so difficult, Danny. I just know if I don’t do something, it will start to affect the whole crew and not just by making them feel warmer than usual.”

He nodded and hugged her. "We'll find something that will do both." He pats her back and goes to the console and ends the current program.

Going over to the console, she put in a jungle setting and made the enemies a mixture of Orions and Klingons. “Think you can keep up?” She asked him before engaging the program. “This will be on the easy side for me, but it should engage both mind and body.”

"You want me to take part with you?" He smiled and tilted his head. He figured this was for her and he was just there for support. Though, he wouldn't mind joining in any program the two of them partake.

She smiled at him and held out her hand toward him. “You are my partner, Danny, aren’t you? Why wouldn’t I want you to be part of this.” She asked him and then when he took her hand, she drew him in close and kissed him.

He held her as they kissed. He rested his head on her shoulder and smiled. "True that, Love. Ok. Let's do this." He starts the program up and looks around.

Mardel looked around and crouched, ready for anything. She listened to the sounds in the jungle and then headed off toward the sudden silence. Careful how she moved, Mardel made good speed without disturbing the surroundings. She stopped and listened again a moment, then she sprang over a boulder while drawing her knife and plunged it deep into the back of her prey. She felt the satisfaction of watching an enemy die. Then she pulled the dagger out and wiped it clean on the clothing that passed for armor of her enemy and then started to stalk the next victim.

Daniel climbed up a tree with a bow and a quiver of arrows on his back and scouted around. He sees a couple Klingons heading towards them. He pulls an arrow and pulls the string. He took a deep breath and released the arrow. The arrow flies and hits one of the Klingons in the neck and the other takes cover yelling in Klingon.

Watching as the first of two Klingons fall to Daniel’s bow, she springs from the bushes, now in her furs and not her uniform, and plunged her dagger into the back of the other klingon, severing the spine and then twisted to open the wound so he would bleed out in seconds. Then she pulled the dagger and cleaned it on the body of the slain. She pulled the arrow from the neck of the first Klingon and nodded to the tree that Daniel was in and took the arrow back to him. “Wonderful shot, Danny. We should do this more often. It’s really starting to help. No wonder they always sent the pregnant women out to do the hunting back in the clans.” She said to him with a grin on her face, finally feeling a little better. “On to the next. There should be another two Klingons and one more Orion.”

Daniel smiled and jumped off the tree and into some bushes. He walked out and went up to her and wrapped his arms around her. "You're…" He was speechless when she mentioned what the women who were pregnant did.

She laughed, feeling more like herself. “Don’t be so worried, Daniel. The hunting teams also had non-pregnant women. But exercising the mind and body is needed to keep the hormones under control. And aggression is one of the symptoms of an Orion pregnancy. Just like being weepy is one of the symptoms of a Terran pregnancy. Shall we finish the hunt, or are we done?”

He smiled brightly and hugged her more. After losing their first unborn child, they were determined to try again. Now they have a new baby on the way and he couldn't be more happy. "Let's continue, Love." He said with happy tears in his eyes.

Nodding, she gave him a quick kiss and then crouched again and went on the hunt for the remaining three enemies. She listened, moving very carefully, almost scenting the air, like the predator she was. Then she winked at Daniel to let him know she was back on the scent and then ran quickly and carefully through the jungle to flush out the next victims.

Daniel saw the wink at the nod his head to her. He then climbed another tree and got into position and waited for his wife to flush the prey out so he could take them out.

Sniffing the air, she could almost taste her prey. It was the Klingon pair and they were trying to find some cover behind a large boulder and not being very quiet about it. As she watched them, the Orion came out on the opposite side of Klingons from Mardel and started to grapple with them. Taking a moment to spot Daniel in the tree, she signalled with her head that all three were behind the single boulder. Then she put her focus back on the three combatants and they weren’t being very quiet even though the Orion kept trying to get them to all be quiet. Smiling coldly, Mardel moved silently around the trio and then sprang and took out the Orion and the two Klingons froze for a second and then ran from the cover of the boulder.

Daniel readies his bow as he waits patiently for their prey to reach the boulder. He sees them try to get behind the boulder. He pulls out three arrows and pulls on the string. He takes aim and releases the arrows. The arrows flew; one arrow hit one Klingon in the leg and the other two hit the other Klingon in the ribs.

Pouncing, she gave mercy to the two that Daniel injured. Then the program ended and she was standing back in her uniform, a little sweaty and feeling much better. She smiled at Daniel and went into his arms, resting her head against his chest. “Thank you, Daniel. Things are back under control again. I will need to work out like this at least every other day at this stage of the pregnancy to stay in control. Do you want to join me for these workouts?” She asked him, wrapping her arms around his waist.

Daniel smiled and wrapped his arms around Mardel and kissed the top of her head. He listened as she spoke about her exercise plans during her pregnancy. He nodded with a smile. "Of course I will join you." He kisses her lips and rests his head on her shoulder.

“Okay, a quick shower, clean uniform, and back to duty” She kissed him back and then went to their quarters to get ready to go back to duty. Once again, calm and collected, the captain everyone expected.

He held her hand and kissed her hand. "You sure you have duty?" He laughed and wrapped his arms around her. "I was hoping to make dinner for us to celebrate."

She smiled at him. “When it’s dinner time, I would love that. But it’s only 1315 and I really need to get a plan of action in place for our current situation to take the rest of the day off.” She caressed his cheek. “I hope you understand, Daniel. Tonight, after duty, I will be all yours, promise.”

He smiled and cupped her cheek. He hugged her and kissed her cheek. "I completely understand. No worries, Love." He kisses her cheek and hugs her. "After your shift, we can have our celebratory dinner."
